Well here it is. Cheerful as it may sound… I’ve spent a good part of 4 days working on this during my holiday. Thankfully, it’s come together quite nicely and I’m quite fond of the result so far.
However, there’s far more work to done on the site! So here’s a quick break down of what I need to fix/test/update.
- Content – I still have lots of portfolio posts to add as well as amending the comments section.
- The Footer – it needs some love from Twitter, LastFm and Flickr photography streaming in as well as a bit of embellishing.
- The Navigation – requires a bit more interaction improvements with the on click, single page posts and a bit more work graphic design wise.
- The code - it’s not perfect… but then being a one man band and trying to get this all done, I didn’t expect it to be perfect. It was a great lesson and a real reiteration that no matter how much I love doing front-end work, if changes come, code suffers.
- Google analytics – That’s right…
none of this is being tracked yet. Also, I want to do some nice multi-variant testing.
- Micro-formats – despite having some hCard details on the home page, I’ve still yet to add microformats with the comments on posts and possibly a few other areas.
- Accessibility – Need to test a few more areas of the site with a screen reader and see how it gracefully degrades without javascript.
That’s it for now… got any suggestions? Thoughts? Hates? Heck…. even a good job would be nice! Okay, okay I’ll stop fishing.
Thanks for stopping by!
- Kai.
Looks very clean cut! Nice and bold!
On your portfolio page the black and red boxes interlock; however it doesn’t interlock with the page’s ‘title’ block, same for the other pages such as the blog one.
Continuity in design! =D
Stanto: Very true re: the pattern for posts under the section intro. I’ve just been pushing to get it out rather than have it perfect. I’m plannning something a lot more simpler and to think about how I incorp. Comments, ragas, categories and more into it.
Thanks for your post!
Ps. No avatar? How very unlike you!
Hey Kai, nice to see you are coding php mysql etc. I have just started too. Quite fun trying to solve all the problems… i dont know css though so messing with that a lot more than php.
1. Love it.
2. Love that this is what you do during your holiday
3. Very much looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the footer.
Oh I definately need to sort how this looks lol. I’m going to fix this quickly around lunch time.
Thanks to everyone for your comments, really appreciate it.
Simon, glad you like it, it means a lot that you like it! And yes… once I get addicted to working on things, I just really cant stop.
No avatar? The form only lets me enter name, email and my website.
Hey Chris, the avatars come in from http://en.gravatar.com/ – I’ll add in a link + microcopy to explain it tomorrow night. Just having a bit of a rest from it and still have to set up Snow Leopard on my Mac Mini so that I can run subversion.
Good, I’m afraid it really wasn’t obvious that the avatars came from there. I saw no other link or suggestion to it at all.
